As I mentioned in a previous post,
The Art Reach Philadelphia Access program has added theaters and we are excited!
You will find the Arden Theater in historic Old City Philadelphia.
The Arden Theater is located at 40 N. 2nd Street, between Market and Arch Streets in Old City Philadelphia. They are immediately next to historic Christ Church and half a block north of the Market-Frankford Line’s 2nd Street stop, if public transportation is more convenient for you. Unfortunately, we struggled with parking the day we visited. There was a play in the early afternoon, ours was late afternoon. Because of this, the parking was beyond filled and somewhat chaotic. Staff inside suggested we hang out until the first show ended and the lots emptied a bit. We chose to unload at the corner and my husband drove around until he convinced the lot attendant that he was supposed to fit in their lot, as advised by staff inside the theater. It was frustrating for him. Next time we attend, we will use a parking app to find a local lot.
Outside of parking, the whole experience went smoothly!
From the time I called for ACCESS tickets at $2.00 each until we loaded up for home, we were shown care. I was assisted in finding wheelchair accessible seating over the phone…and it included our seats next to them. We arrived to find a great ramp that leads up to an extra door on the corner. You really can’t miss it. The Will-Call line was very manageable. We found the clean restrooms off of the lobby. Although it was busy and crowded, we managed just fine!
The greatest surprise was being greeted by someone who seemed to be expecting us!
While waiting in the lobby for the doors to open, a lovely young woman came out saying, “Here you are! I will assist you into your spots shortly!” Then she asked if we preferred to transfer or have the girls remain in their wheelchairs…if transferring then she would arrange to have the seats removed in their spots. We chose to stay in the wheelchairs and off she went to make the arrangements. She did so PLEASANTLY! It was great not having to figure out the plan myself (especially since Daddio was outside dealing with parking troubles!).
The show was fantastic! We expected entertainment for the girls, but had no idea how much we ourselves would laugh!
Once we were drawn into the story and the production, the time flew by. As a result, we were disappointed when our time ended…and thrilled to purchase tickets through Art Reach Access once again. We have our wheelchair accessible seats reserved for Treasure Island! We were able to reserve for our whole family at $2 each. Each girl can bring 3 people for a total of 8 tickets between them. I’d say an accessible venue with a quality performance and pleasant hosts for $16.00 is an experience that can’t be missed! Add it to your to-do list of Art Reach Philadelphia Access plans!
